Lakeland Trustee David Kalina has received the Richard N. Adams, Ph.D. Educational Service Award from the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC) Governing Board. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated an active commitment to, and participation in, trustee education.
Kalina has participated in many statewide educational events sponsored by the OACC in order to keep current regarding higher education in Ohio. Trustees who have attended 12 or more OACC trustee education events are eligible for this award.
"Dave's commitment to higher education and awareness of the prominent role education plays in both the economic and social success of students and the community is to be highly commended," said Dr. Morris W. Beverage, Jr., president of Lakeland.
Kalina is a partner with Burges & Niple in Painesville. He joined the Lakeland board of trustees in March of 1996 and is serving his third consecutive five-year term. Kalina holds a bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University.
The Educational Service Award is named in honor of Richard N. Adams, Ph.D., a trustee of Edison Community College, who served as the OACC’s fourth Chairperson during 1997-99. Dr. Adams became the second Ohioan to Chair the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) in 2002-03, and currently serves on the Board of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
Lakeland is governed by nine trustees. Three of Lakeland's trustees are appointed by the Governor, six of the trustees are appointed by the Lake County Commissioners. The trustees are all appointed for a term of five years.
